Temporary passports to be discontinued

From September 1,South Africans needing to leave the country urgently, may have to wait for nearly two weeks to receive a permanent passport ,after the scrapping of the Temporary passport.

The Home Affairs department says the move comes as many mzansi citizens have been refused entry, when travelling abroad using a temporary passport ,making the process redundant.

However, an Emergency Travel Certificate, issued on the day of applying ,would however come in handy, depending on the nature of circumstances presented by the applicant.
