Police in the North West have confirmed that a case of cruelty to animals has been opened against the chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Thandi Modise. The former North West Premier now faces charges of neglect. Police and the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA officials visited the farm outside Potchefstroom at the weekend. They found that the animals had been left without water and food for weeks. Pigs had already started eating each other and others were dead.

Today is the last day for residents in Gauteng to send in their suggestions for Premier David Makhura ahead of his State of the province address tomorrow.

Makhura says Service delivery will be at the top of is agenda  in efforts to improve the lives of all GP residents and sustain it as the economic hub in the country.

In the build-up to the State of the Province Address (SoPA), the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) is inviting the residents of the province to offer their suggestions on what they think Gauteng Premier David Makhura should include in his very first address next Friday.

The Pointers for Premier campaign aims to solicit ideas from ordinary residents of Gauteng on service delivery matters they wish Premier Makhura to address in his first SoPA scheduled to take place on 27 June 2014.

Cape Town - The German Development Bank is providing over R70 million for violence prevention in the Western Cape, premier Helen Zille said on Thursday.

She signed an agreement with the KFW Development Bank on Thursday that would see upgrades to infrastructure and security.

The funding is to be used to extend the Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrading (VPUU) programme to the rest of the province.

The VPUU has been in place in Cape Town since 2005, in areas such as Khayelitsha, thanks to German funding.

The DA's premier candidate for Gauteng Mmusi Maimane has accepted his nomination for the position of parliamentary leader of the party.

The official opposition is currently in caucus to discuss vacant positions and the party's strategy going forward.

Maimane's acceptance comes after Lindiwe Mazibuko stepped down to further her studies abroad at Harvard university.

Democratic Alliance leader Hellen Zille has been re-elected as the party's premier in the Western Cape.

The party won the province for the second term,with 59% going into the provincial legislature with 42 seats.

Meanwhile,89 DA members have been sworn in at Parliament today, with former Joburg leader Mmusi Maimane and 24 year old Yusuf Cassim among them.

Gauteng finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe has resigned from both the provincial government and legislature.

This comes after Nkomfe's name had been mentioned as one of the candidates expected to take over from the current Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane.

GP Governemnt has confirmed Nkomfe is not on the ANC's legislature list and will not be part of the the new Gauteng government.

Manchester City are a step closer to clinging a second  Premier League in three years after a they gave Aston Villa a 4-0 thumbing to go to the top of the table with a game remaining.

The victory means the blues just need one more point from their last game to win the league title.

City are two points ahead of liverpool but a superior goalm difference of 13 over their tital rivals means a draw would be enough for the club to be crowned champions.

Local singer Matthew Mole has been chosen to perform at the premier of the upcoming movie Leading Lady at the Seattle International Film Festival in June.

The Sama nominee's debut album The Home We Built shot to the top of the iTunes chart last year with five of his songs used in the movie's soundtrack
