From the start of 2016, parents will have only 30 days to register their newborns or risk their child not being recognised as a citizen, it was reported on Wednesday.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba announced that his department intends ending all late registration of births by the end of December 2015.

Parents will have 30 days from the birth of the baby to register them, the Times reported Gigaba as saying.

New Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko should fire national commissioner Riah Phiyega and replace her with someone with policing experience, the DA said on Wednesday.

"By firing Phiyega, the new police minister can show that he is committed to improving the state of our police service, that has been in rapid decline over the last five years," Democratic Alliance MP Diane Kohler-Barnard said in a statement.

Two members of the police service have been arrested in Tshwane for allegedly accepting bribes from motorists.

The suspects are set to face disciplinary action, after an investigator saw one motorist handing over money to one of the officers.

Brittan authorities are conducting post moterms on the bodies of three children that were found in a London home belonging to a South African couple.

The children a four year old girl and her three year old twin brothers are from a South African family.

Their 43 year old mother Tania is in police custody for questioning while their father has since traveled back to the UK with family members.
