The City of Johannesburg has embarked on collaboration with the CIDA City Campus University that will enable the training of 3000 Digital Ambassadors to assist with the role-out of 1000 free WiFi hotspots around the metropole.

Currently in the Big Apple, Mayor Parks Tau signed a memorandum of understanding with New York-based firm Africa Integras that will fund the initial phase of the training.

The Mayor is concluding a week-long visit to the United States where he also attended the New Cities Summit in Dallas, Texas.

US president Barack Obama has been accorded with an honorary doctorate of laws degree by the University of Johannesburg.

Obama was made aware of the accolade during his state visit to the country last year, and accepted the honour.

US ambassador to South Africa Patrick Gaspard, accepted the degree on his behalf yesterday

Police have launched a search for four suspects who robbed 30 United States university students on a bus in Tshwane.

The four armed motorcyclists ambushed the tour bus on Eeufees road before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of US dollars and several cellphones.

The students had been in mzansi for a five week study work and travel programme however the university has since decided to cancel the trip.
