Buffalo City municipality mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and two others were arrested on Monday for alleged fraud involving Nelson Mandela's memorial service, Eastern Cape officials said.

"The arrests are in relation to the Nelson Mandela memorial saga which is currently under investigation by the office of the MEC for DLGTA as well as the Hawks," local government and traditional affairs department (DLGTA) spokesman Mamnkeli Ngam said in a statement.

Group Five has won a contract to construct the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg, the hospital's trust said on Monday.

Construction began on Monday and was expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016, it said in a statement.

We are confident that Group Five will be the right partner as we navigate what is for the hospital trust, unchartered territory, trust chairman Moss Ngoasheng said.

Former president Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi Mandela and his grandson Mandla Mandela welcomed a book by the former statesman's personal assistant, The Star reported on Friday.

At Zelda La Grange's book launch, Zindzi Mandela said people who had a close relationship with the apartheid icon were entitled to share their experiences and perspectives of him.

Mandla Mandela said the family expected that people would have experienced his grandfather in different ways and the family could not agree or disagree with the experience of others.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to make his first public appearance in over a week when he delivers his seventh state-of-the-nation address on Tuesday evening.

Parliament is expected to be a hive of activity as workers cleared the ceremonial path Zuma is expected to walk before he enters the National Assembly.

Zuma is expected to be escorted through the streets of Cape Town by the military and mounted police.

 The South African Gold Coin Exchange (SAGCE) commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Rivonia Trial verdict and sentencing by auctioning off a signed Lifiesleaf Rivonia Ten gold medallion at Kyalami Estate on Tuesday.

The coin was signed by two of the three remaining trialists, Denis Goldberg and Andrew Mlangeni, at Liliesleaf earlier in the day.

A limited number of 1000 of these medallions, minted by the Mint of Norway, which list the names of the 10 trialists, were also launched at the auction.

The memorial service for former president Thabo Mbeki's mother, Epainette Mbeki, will be held at the King Hintsa FET College in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape at noon on Thursday.

MaMbeki died in a private hospital in East London on Saturday after a short illness.  Mbeki (98) will be accorded a Special  Provincial Official funeral at her home in the Ngcingwane village of Dutywa on Saturday.

The Presidency says the honour is reserved for distinguished South African citizens who have made a meaningful contribution to nation-building.

 Evictions at Lwandle near Strand in the Western Cape must be put on hold, the transport department said on Wednesday.

Minister Dipuo Peters undertook to issue a directive to Sanral to withdraw the court order while short and long term solutions are sought to resolve the challenges at hand," spokesman Tiyani Ponto-Rikhotso said in a statement.

Mboweni's withdrawal was announced by the ANC's secretary-general Gwede Mantashe yesterday ,where very little detail as to why he withdrew was given

Political analysts say Mboweni may be deployed elsewhere as the law allows the president to appoint two ministers and two deputy ministers who are not Members of Parliament

Freedom day celebrations continue  with SA once again pay tribute to late President Nelson Mandela in Cape town this morning.

A bronze bust of the former president has been unveiled outside Parliament to commemorate 20 years of freedomand mzansi's first democratically elected President.

Meanwhile President Jacob Zuma said SA would not forget the solidarity recieved from foreign nationals in the liberation of the country.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has reiterated that he would not vote for the ruling party when the nation hits the polls on May 7.

Tutu has been vocal about his disappointments with the ANC stating that they have veered off the dreams of its past leaders.
