Students at Medunsa in Ga-Rankuwa were ordered to vacate the premises on Wednesday following a decision to close the institution.

The universitys vice chancellor Prof Mahlo Mokgalong, in consultation with the executive management committee, decided to close Medunsa and dissolve the campus SRC (Students Representative Council), said spokesman Kgalema Mohuba in a statement.

This meant the academic programme was suspended indefinitely.

He said the decision was informed by the stubborn behaviour of both the SRC and student community.

The SA Human Rights Commission launched an investigation on Thursday after two white students from the University of Pretoria (UP) were photographed in domestic worker outfits and smeared with black paint.

"While the commission has still not received a complaint in this regard, the commission decided to launch an own initiative investigation," spokesman Isaac Mangena told Sapa.

A man was killed when a truck and an SUV collided in Bapsfontein, east of Johannesburg, on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

The SUV driver, believed to be in his 50s, was trapped in his vehicle and died on scene, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries, and was taken to the Far East Rand Hospital.

The cause of the accident was unknown.

JOHANNESBURG - Numsa said on Tuesday it would take the latest offer from the main employers' group to its members on Wednesday, possibly ending a week-old stoppage that has hit car manufacturers.

A spokesman for the engineering and metal workers' union did not elaborate on the offer. The labour ministry said the two sides were "very close" to securing a deal.

The differences are in terms of fractions.

The EFF national leadership has condemned what it calls the violent and undemocratic decision of the ANC Speaker to remove its members from the Gauteng legislature.

"During the debate on the State of the Province, the speaker of the Gauteng legislature, Ntombi Mekgwe, called police to remove Economic Freedom Fighters members from parliament because they were dressed in worker clothes," spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said in a statement on Tuesday.

Buffalo City municipality mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and two others were arrested on Monday for alleged fraud involving Nelson Mandela's memorial service, Eastern Cape officials said.

"The arrests are in relation to the Nelson Mandela memorial saga which is currently under investigation by the office of the MEC for DLGTA as well as the Hawks," local government and traditional affairs department (DLGTA) spokesman Mamnkeli Ngam said in a statement.

Protesters barricaded Chris Hani Road in Diepkloof Zone Six, Soweto, with burning tyres and rocks on Wednesday morning, Gauteng traffic police said.

Spokesman Obed Sibasa advised motorists to avoid Chris Hani Road between Nicolus Street (Power Park) and the Soweto Empowerment Zone, which he referred to as the employment centre.

There was a strong police presence in the area.

Sibasa described the situation as "tense, unsafe, however under control".

All health professionals are expected to be told where to base their private practise by 2016 - after President Jacob Zuma signed into law - a new National Health Act

Doctors and health professionals who wish to open their own practice or clinic would have to apply and obtain a "certificate of need" over two years from the Department of Health - giving them the permission to start work in their chosen residential area.
